The Singular Truth of ‘Duality’

The concept of Duality is essentially an illusion, but useful to acknowledge before one is Enlightened!

When we speak of adults compared to children; when we consider those currently experiencing pleasant karmic consequences compared to those we may label as unpleasant. When we observe folk still in ignorance compared to those who are experiencing what we call enlightenment; or people making choices and reacting from pain and trauma compared to those choosing and responding from inspiration, compassion and love. When we speak of people of pure or benevolent intent compared to those still operating with selfish or what we might call malevolent intent; or even when we consider spirit and matter, male and female, happiness and sadness, night and day, darkness and light – are we truly, in any of these situations, speaking of Duality?

Despite it appearing as such to the unawakened person, we are actually speaking here of a spectrum of the one reality, of portions of the journey a Soul treads from its first incarnation until it’s last, of two vibratory ends of a dipole, or of two parts or expressions of a whole.
Sometimes unawakened folk confuse the pairs of opposites, or two sides of the one coin, as “duality” – but these things are no more separated than are the front and back of your body!

And so it is when we speak of the “battle between good and evil”, or Darkness and Light. It can feel like a “battle” due to, the magnitude of the effort involved, to how vast the opposite side may appear, or how far it seems we are from the victory of significant change. And also because of the degree of commitment, focus and therefore power held by those on the opposing side. But this is just the nature of equilibrant force. The greater the potency of the opposites, the greater the power it takes to create balance and stillness – from the perspective of the limited human experience.
In capital R reality, these opposites are already in perfect equilibrium, as they are naught but two chosen expressions of the Divine itself.

Consider the Yin and Yang… no matter the contrast between the white and black, no matter if they sit in stillness or how fast they spin, they are always and ever contained within the circle of oneness, of all that is.

It is only our separating minds that see and therefore experience duality, where in truth there is Divine Wholeness.

Wholeness does not equate to inert stagnancy

However, some folks confuse All is Divine, All is The Source, as a type of stasis. The Divine is not static. It too is growing, is ever-changing – in this regard the outer reflects the inner. God is imperfect because Humanity are imperfect. We exist within the Divine body of God, and are part of it. If the body we dwell within is capable of sickness, then there is still room for growth for the being whose body this is – namely God.
How we conceive of Unchanging Divine Perfection, is the product of the struggling human being projecting onto the Divine, both what it is not, and the best it can comprehend of the vast stillness it perceives in the early stages of spiritual awakening.
Greatness knows no limits. Evolution continues infinitely.
But even our conception of evolution is a projection. A cup full of consciousness can only comprehend an approximation, or projection, of the vastness of the ocean of consciousness it exists within.

The cup cannot contain the ocean, the ocean contains the cup!

Remember, in order to know itself the Divine or “Universe” manifested itself as what it is not – and yes this is a paradox. For even “what it is not”, it is. But let us entertain that it cut parts of itself off from experiencing the fullness or wholeness that it is.

Limitless Luminous Spirit manifested itself as Limited Dark Matter, and all that we experience as evolution at this level, all which could be summed up as “the redemption of substance”, is just the now dark and limited Divine returning to Itself, or to its truly Divine Nature.

Dark Matter is not separate from Light Spirit. And despite the intensity within the crucible of transmutation, despite the experience of it feeling like warfare or a battle to the separated consciousness, the journey the Divine takes back to itself, is held within its own wholeness. The enlightened see this, but choose to speak in terms that those people yet to fully awaken, will understand. As most folk are still at the level where they experience duality as real, enlightened beings and those with true wisdom, speak in terms these folk can relate to.

The wise speak to be heard

Choosing words for your audience, to speak in the language of your audience, does not reveal ignorance, it demonstrates Skilful Means!

Just as a Heart Based Person would not expect a person in trauma to behave with selfless consideration of others, an Adult does not expect adult behaviour of a child, or a university Professor does not expect a high schooler to understand the fullness of their own level of knowledge… so the Divine does not expect awakened conscious understanding of the unawakened. Therefore like the Heart Based Person, the Adult or the Professor, the Divine speaks to the present state or level of their listener. They will use simplistic or simplified concepts until the person is ready to grasp the vastness as it truly is.

Speaking in terms that your audience has no ability to experientially understand, is nothing more than pride demonstrating itself. The Divine will express itself in the most considered and wise way, at the level of understanding of the audience, even in seeming dualistic terms when appropriate – this is Skilful Means, this is Love in Action.

Duality is a Relative Expression of the Divine

The experience of duality is the experience of relative reality, not absolute reality – but in truth relative and absolute are one. The whole exists in all of its parts. The only problems are when we identify with a part, or mistake a part for the whole!

The quest of the seeker lies in three directions:

  1. Reaching beyond the limited self and identifying with the absolute self – Omniscience.
  2. Realising the absolute self is present, even within the most limited expression of life – Omnipresence.
  3. As a result of these two awakenings in consciousness, realising therefore that Divine Power is ever available – Omnipotence.

Each of us ARE the Divine, manifesting in dense matter. As we fully realise this, we awaken the whole of ourselves, and the oneness within ourselves. But even as this becomes embodied, we will still be incarnate in a sexed body, and experience night and day – relative duality will still be all around us. And many are those around us, fully immersed in this level of awareness.

Our task then is to build rapport, by demonstrating oneness, but not alienating these folk by appearing out of reach. We must speak within the field of their experience, and in their language.

The Divine knows the limitations of dense matter, even though it itself is unlimited spirit, for dense matter is also an expression of itself.

Life is Oneness functioning as the illusion of Duality. Even though the illusion is useful in daily life, the way to resolve all duality, is to balance the pairs of opposites and thereby Awaken to the Oneness of Being.

Tools for Transformation

Firstly, let’s explore the Edge of Your Being:

Sitting in a comfortable position, close your eyes and take a few deep, centring breaths.
Shifting your focus from the dense physical, and resting your awareness within the centre of your head, feeling therein your individual sense of self.
From there, stretch your awareness outwards, and try and find an edge to yourself, where you end, and all other life begins.
Most likely you will have automatically stretched out in the Horizontal, out from where you are, towards the rest of the world. So now stretch upwards within – in the Vertical. Reaching into higher-vibrational reality, again trying to find the edge of yourself.

In both instances you will not find a defined border of self. Know this in your being!

Secondly, we’ll consider any Pair of Opposites:
Let’s try Masculine and Feminine.
Again sitting with eyes closed, centre yourself with a few deep breaths. Then hold the idea of each in your mind, and ask: “What lies at their midpoint, and simultaneously contains them both?”
Hold this focus for about 5 mins. If your mind wanders, come back to seeking the midpoint, by asking the question again.

In both of these brief meditations, you are being guided into a Direct Experience of Oneness. There are no right or wrong experiences. It is the seeking that opens our consciousness to the vastness of the Divine.

Blessed Self
