Gem – E-Motions and Stillness

Motion Does Not Have to be Mindless Motion

It is said quite often these days, that emotion can be seen as “e-motion,” or energy in motion. Along with this sharing usually comes the implication that we must keep this energy in motion, else it stagnates, and sickness will follow. There is some truth to these ideas – at least in regard to blocked energy.

However, it is also true that the Voice of the Soul or Higher Self can only be heard within the Silent Stillness of the Heart. And further, that with active emotions comes an active aura, and anything trying to reach the Heart from the Soul will be distorted by these agitated emotional waters they must pass through, and therefore, accuracy of perception will be lost.

It is for these reasons that Emotional Control and the cultivation of Stillness are essential practices on the spiritual path. This is not an instruction to suppress the emotions, for this is unhealthy. But likewise, we do not want to overexpress the emotions – we must strive for wise controlled and balanced expression – which is really the Art of Transmutation. In the end, all emotions, like all energies in the lower centres, must be transformed and lifted into their higher corresponding centres, and this requires self-control. In the case of the emotions, we seek to consciously reduce the waves to ripples, so that when this gentle stillness is achieved, all energies, thoughts, and intuitions have their best chance of arriving within our daily consciousness with as little distortion as possible.

Just as there is wisdom in pausing and thinking before speaking, the same is true of indulging our emotions – for not all emotions lead us to places where Joy and Love dwell – and in fact, when we unconsciously act out our emotions, much suffering often ensues! Perhaps there are times where it is far better to draw up and transmute the feelings, rather than allowing them to control our choices and behaviours – as many regretful reactions stand testament throughout humanity’s history.

Mindfulness is important to cultivate within all levels of the Personality – physically, mentally, and most certainly, emotionally!
